Unassisted, Powerful Freebirth, South Wales

Peaceful, Uninterrupted, Unassisted and Powerful Freebirth, South Wales.

The room was darkened, pool filled and brought up to the right temperature. Beautiful birth affirmations, coloured with love by the mother were on display. Fairy lights and lamps were lit.

It was the early hours of the morning when the rest of the world was sleeping that this magical story of freebirth unfolds.

Already in her own safe space she glides into the room, derobes and holding the hand of her most beloved husband, she steps into the pool.

Down she sinks as the warm waters of the pool surround and embrace her like the waters of the womb in which she herself was once held.

A gentle sigh of pleasure escapes her “aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh”, she leans onto the edge of the pool facing her husband and these 2 shining beings with the third inside her, start to dance in a powerful ballet of birth.

Powerful, emotive, raw and natural, the sensations overtake her, her body doing exactly what it was meant to do, as this is, so it has been for generations of women, way back into the dark mists of time.

By her side, giving strength and reassurance, without the needs for loud sounds or many words, her husband quiet, gentle and totally in tempo with her wishes, together dancing an eternal dance.

The low light shines as the tattoo across the birthing woman’s back, seems to come to life in a primal force, taking on a life of its own.

Gentle moans escape as the surges take her, occasionally she voices requests.

“hypnobirthing”

And I fulfill this need, so the sounds of powerful hypno-birthing fill the room.

“water”

So the other half of her passes her water with a straw, lifting it to her lips without a word, ensuring no distraction takes place.

She sways in the water lost in rhythm of a tune only she can hear, rocking, circling, squatting, kneeling, instinctively positioning her body in ways that co-ordinate with the path her baby chooses to take as he journeys from his mother’s womb to the world outside.

Witnesses these moments, it could be minutes, it could be hours, in the liminal space of the here and now time seems suspended and has lost all meaning.

Not speaking or participating, just watching from the other side of the room, listening as the woman makes sounds that verge on orgasmic coming from deep within her, at times making melodic singing noises.

Her husband is by her side throughout, never being more than a handspan away. whispering words that only she hears, kissing her, applying counter pressure and massage, sometimes closing his eyes, stroking, pressing, loving, strong and gentle in unison.

The tempo changes

“my love, my love”

she breathes.

“please baby come, I don’t want this anymore”

And so she speaks to her husband, her baby, her body and her inner self, each part of this dance, perfectly in co-ordination with the other.

And so the storm of transition comes and it goes. A moment of doubt, defecating, some gentle reassurance and she enters back into herself.

Some calm, rest and be thankful, she slumps onto the side of the pool, taking this pause, this time, before the final stages and then the bearing down ……

Squatting on her haunches and grunting quietly, base animalistic sounds, the energy waves reverberate around the cave like room as involuntary pushing sensations overtake her body. Guttural noises,

“uuurrrrrgggghhhh, urrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh”

And then

“it burns”

A few instinctive, powerful pushes and movements later, he is there, birthed from the womb of the mother who loved him before he was ever conceived and caught by the man who created him as a symbol of his love for the mother and their family.

This is birth as it was ever meant to be, peaceful, uninterrupted, unassisted and powerful, now etched into ancestral memory.

And so ends this stage of this magical freebirth.

It isn’t often I write a birth story but the words simply flowed through me, it was also my first time taking birth photography, this story has also been written by the mother on her own blog, Diary of A Yogini – An Amazing Home Birth.
