The Lady of The Land

I often go to Drum Circles in South Wales and all over the country as well as other retreats and workshops, there is usually someone running things, but in the background there is often someone who works the sacred land on which we stand and whose hard work is often missed.

Unless you have been involved in the setting up of an event it can be hard to realise how much work goes into making it happen, not just by the event organisers, but by those who look after the venue 24/7 365 days a year and create beautiful and sacred spaces.

This came to me at circle last night, it was swirling in my head and I thought it was a chant I should find, but google has not been forthcoming and then suddenly the rest flowed, which is how I write all my poetry.

It is a thank you to one particular friend of mine but also to all the others who invest their time and energy for the rest of us to enjoy.

Lady of the Land

She is the Lady of the Land

As she stands, drum in hand

Spirits surrounding her.

Quiet and unassuming

Her gentle soul, fulfils her role

Of ensuring our needs are met

Firewood she stacks

Chairs and seating she arranges

Sustenance she provides with snacks

In the background she stays

Her many deeds unseen and often unacknowledged

But she is the air, the earth, the fire and the water of this land

Her family committed to providing support

To her stillness and her storm

Their Lady of the Land

Shelters from the rain, the earth we stand on

The fire that warms us and the wind that chills us

Come from the Land of this Lady

Spirit spoke and she came forward

To offer her hands and lands in humble service

This Lady of the Land

And so we gather, those seen and unseen

In circle, as one and yet not one

To drum and chant in community

And as SHE drums and SHE chants

And remains quiet and watchful, our guardian at the back

We give thanks to the Lady of the Land
